Virginia Farm Bureau Federation’s Rural Health Careers Essay Contest

Open to any high school or college student from a county Farm Bureau member-household who are interested in health-related careers in rural areas. Participants must prepare a typed essay of no fewer than 400 words, titled “My Future Career in Rural Health in Virginia,” along with a resume.  Essays submitted by high school students and college students will be judged separately.   Two high school winners and two college winners will be chosen.  The winner in each division will receive $1,000 and the second-prize winner will receive $500.

 

Virginia Farm Bureau Federation – Farm Bureau Ambassador

The purpose of the Ambassador contest is to recognize a young agriculturist for their interest and achievements in agriculture and provide them with an opportunity to serve as an ambassador for agriculture and Farm Bureau. All contestants must be:

1. A member of Virginia Farm Bureau,

2. 18 years of age or have not reached their 26th birthday by end of year nominated

3.  single, and

4. nominated and have completed application signed by county Farm Bureau Women’s Chair.

 Each contestant is to come prepared to provide an agricultural issue or project to promote as your platform, if chosen.

 

Virginia Farm Bureau – Outstanding Young Agriculturalist Award

Open to high school junior or senior students who show outstanding academic, community and agribusiness achievement. Applicants will be judged on: academic achievement, general leadership, farm/agriculture-related experience, 3 letters of recommendation, and a 3-5 minute oral presentation.

 

Virginia Dept of Social Services – Virginia Child Care Provider Scholarship

Virginia Child Care Provider Scholarship Program is a tuition assistance program offering current and future child care providers a foundation in the care and development of children.  Must be current employee of VA child care program, OR a VA resident working for a non-VA child care program, OR a VA resident intending to become employed by a VA child care program.

 

Virginia Department of Aviation – Willard G. Plentl Aviation Scholarship

Awarded to a Virginia High School senior who is planning an aviation career in a non-engineering area. A certification of acceptance into a non-engineering, aviation-related postsecondary education program is required. Examples of non-engineering aviation careers include (but are not limited to) pilots, aviation maintenance technicians, aviation managers, etc. Scholarship applicants must have an unweighted GPA of at least 3.5. One scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded each year and is not renewable.

 

Virginia Credit Union – Dorothy J. Hall Scholarship Program

Open to student members of VACU by September 30, 2011.  Applicants must:

1.  be the primary member of their own account, not just a joint owner on someone else’s account; have account in good standing, and

2.  be a rising college freshman, sophomore, junior or senior who will be taking at least nine (9) credit hours per semester at an accredited college/university or community college.

Application available in January 2012.

 

Virginia Coalition of Police and Deputy Sheriffs Scholarship Competition

Open to Virginia high school seniors who plan to attend college and submit the best essay on Virginia law enforcement. The essay theme is “Virginia Law Enforcement: A Commitment to Community” and should be no more than 1500 words in length.

 

Virginia Career Educational Foundation

Open to high school students participating in Career and Technical Education (CTE) student organization (Future Teachers of America, Future Farmers of America, Future Business Leaders of America, etc.) and are pursuing higher education in the CTE program.

 

Virginia Aviation Foundation student scholarships

Open to high school seniors enrolled in a Virginia school district who plan to attend an accredited school or academy to pursue a career in aviation. Applicants must have applied to a school or academy with an accredited aviation related program and have a minimum 2.8 GPA.

 

Virginia Athletic Trainers Association – High School Student Scholarship Award

Open to students who demonstrate excellent potential for a career athletic training. Applicants must be nominated and:

1.  be a member of the current graduating class of a secondary school in Virginia

2.  verify admission to an accredited institution of higher learning with the intention to pursue a NATA accredited curriculum program, and

3.  provide evidence of interest in athletic training through experience as a high school student athletic trainer and/or attendance at an athletic training seminar or workshop.
